Day 3 of Steve and Dave's Big Adventure

Today was a motorcycle riders dream day! We started out at 8:30am from Novato and drove up the 101 to Geyserville then headed west past the the beautiful vineyards of Sonoma County and Dry Creek Valley on our way over to Hwy 1 and Stewarts Point. We lunched at a BBQ joint in Gualala and cruised up Hwy 1 with stops at Point Arenas Lighthouse, Mendocino and Fort Bragg. But what made today's ride so stinking much fun was when Hwy 1 turns away from the coast and heads inland toward Hwy 101. For about 25 miles we were riding the rails of our bikes thru the twisties that have to rival the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina! It is truly more fun then a couple 50+ year old guys should have! Who says the Goldwing is just a touring bike? Once we made it back onto the 101 our next stop was the Avenue Of The Giants home of the largest coastal Redwoods in the world! Spectacular!!! Tonight we are staying at Doug and Sue's in Fortuna, thank you two for your hospitality! Temperature varied from 58 degrees to 88 degrees. Total miles today 297 total trip miles 883 (not counting Dave's 1200 miles he rode from Texas to Cali.

Day two continued

Just some pictures that didn't post initially

Day two

Dave and I got off to a late start because I wasn't feeling well this morning. However by 10:45am I was fine and off we went. It was great to finally be riding together on our Wings. We headed west on Hwy 46 toward the Coast Highway 1. The ride was absolutely beautiful winding through the vineyards and wineries and then to the Pacific Ocean. The ride up the coast past Hearst Castle in San Simeon thru Big Sur and Carmel, Santa Cruz and eventually thru San Francisco and over the Golden Gate Bridge was breath taking! The California coast line is second to none! The temperature along the coast averaged 54 degrees and we travelled 292 miles today. At one of the vista points we met a nice couple from Alberta Canada riding their motorcycle and pulling a trailer. But for a few knuckleheads that held up traffic along Hwy 1 (by not using the turnouts) the day was great! Total miles for adventure in two days 586.

First day

Well Dave and I arrived at Tobin James Winery about 20 minutes apart and enjoyed some amazing wines. We ordered pizza and enjoyed it on the deck of the hotel. Wish our wives were here to enjoy this with us.

My First Post

This is my 2007 Gold Wing that I will be riding on my 8000 mile adventure!  Since this is my first post not too much to say.  Once out on the road I will be posting pictures and stories of my trip.  By the way, I will have my buddy Dave riding alongside me!  Dave has a 2008 Gold Wing and we will be meeting up in Central California to begin our trip!  The open road, bugs in the teeth and
God's Great Creation await us!!
