Day 2: Tuesday May 31, 2022

We woke up to 46 degrees in Fortuna CA. After a continental breakfast at the hotel Doug rode in on his BMW motorcycle and joined us on the ride up Hwy 101 with a brief detour to ride a portion of old Hwy1 to Crescent City CA where we stopped for lunch. After lunch Doug separated from us and headed back to Fortuna.  We continued north and crossed into Oregon.  We had gorgeous weather all day and the ride was perfectly relaxing. The coastal views were stunning especially when we stopped to tour Cape Blanco Lighthouse. Unfortunately it was closed for tours today but we did get a few photos from afar. We were pleased to leave California gas prices which were nearing $7 a gallon in Crescent City to $5.25 a gallon in Oregon. I seriously doubt we will ever see $2 a gallon gas again, especially in California.

After all our stops for road construction, lunch and sightseeing we arrived in Coos Bay OR and decided to have dinner and stay the night.  After dinner Eric and Rob rode to Sunset Beach for a romantic viewing of the sunset. 😂 😂

We rode 266 miles today.

Day 1: May 30, 2022

After several attempts by the “enemy” to discourage and derail our ride we all gathered at 0700 and after photos, prayers and hugs & kisses from Myrna and Laura we were kickstands up at 0730 and on our way. Just to give you a brief understanding of what the enemy was doing. He was creating physical health challenges and then a last minute mechanical failure.  After much prayer the physical challenges were overcome and then prayers were needed for Rob’s bike as his bike would not start. The problem was he needed a new pulse generator. The part was no where to be found because it was Saturday-Memorial Day weekend. Rob surrendered the need for the part to Jesus and then was contacted by a seller on EBay that he had the part.  Rob drove 5 hours round trip and got the part and made it back Sunday morning and following the prayer time by pastor Bill (5-29-22 post) Rob and Eric successfully made the difficult repair.

Today we left Lincoln toward highway 20 in Yuba City to Willets and then Hwy 1 at Fort Bragg. We lunched at Noyo River Grill at Fort Bragg bay. We continued our ride up Hwy1 along the California coast to Hwy101 north with a journey thru the redwoods and the Avenue of the Giants. We arrived in Fortuna for the night and my friend of 41 years Doug Smith joined us for dinner at an Italian restaurant we could walk to from the hotel. Shelby was our server and did a fantastic job. We called her manager over to tell her how wonderful Shelby was and she told us she had only been working there for a month.

It was a great first day, the weather was perfect although very windy on hwy 20. We rode 324 miles today. Dave can add the 1640 miles he has already travelled from Texas to Lincoln.
