Day 5: Monday June 23, 2014

We left Coos Bay at 9:30 this morning headed north on highway 101 and we had consistant temperatures throughout the day of 63 degrees. Wonderful riding day. Again we had sun so we really got to enjoy Oregon. Our first stop was at Elbow Lake which was set among the trees in a tranquil setting. The lake, the trees and wild flowers were so peaceful. Our next stop was at a blow hole known as Cooks Chasm. The tide was out so the blow hole was not too impressive. However, the water was cool to watch as the waves moved up the chasm and exploded in the rocks.

Our next stop was for a view of the dunes that were prevalent along a great stretch of the coastline.

We stopped for lunch at the town of Yachats and ate at the Drift Inn Cafe it is a historical building so we wanted to check it out. We both had grilled halibut sandwiches. The inside decorations were a bit eclectic but the food was good.

The ride was pretty slow today because of the speed limit being 55 MPH and the many small towns that you drive thru with speeds of 25-30 MPH. We arrived in Tillamook and toured the cheese factory. Did you know it takes 10lbs of milk (or 1.16 gallons) to make one pound of cheese! After the tour, some cheese samples and Tillamook ice cream we decided to call it a day and checked into a hotel in Tillamook. We travelled only 175 miles today. Total miles so far 1,318
