Day 6: Tuesday June 24, 2014

Well we knew the rains wouldn't hold out forever in the Pacific Northwest. We woke up to light rain today and 61 degrees. We got on the road at 8:30 and after a few miles it started raining harder so we pulled over to put on our rain gear. After about 2 hours we crossed the massive bridge from Astoria Oregon into Washington. Because of the rains we didn't stop for many pictures. I did turn on the Go Pro and got some video that I hope to post in the blog (if I can figure it out) or on Facebook or You Tube.

We stopped for lunch in Raymond, Washington at a restaurant that was recommended from a seafood store clerk in the neighboring town South Bend. So we went to the restaurant called "Skinners". It turned out it was a 50's style diner. We met a guy named Newell who was a 20 year resident of Raymond by way of Georgia where his family farmed pecans. He said he was born in 1935 and his uncle used to own a 1935 Indian motorcycle. He was a charming old guy and we enjoyed cheating with him.

After lunch the skies cleared a bit and we were in and out of rain as we travelled in and out of 3 different rain forests. We did get some dry skies for a couple hours and we stopped near Kalaloch to walk in the forest toward the ocean. The forest was full of burl trees and the beach had hundreds of trees washed up along the beach.

We left the drift wood and was entering another rain forest about 30 miles from Port Angeles. The skies were getting ominous so we stopped to take a few pictures of what we were riding into.

As it turned out we didn't get rained on too bad. Next stop was a gorgeous glacial lake known as Crescent Lake. The lake is breathtaking and the photos don't give the personal experience justice.

We ended today's ride in Port Angeles after 329 miles. Total miles ridden 1647.
